Mavrakos Celebrates 100 Years!

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company, owner and manufacturer of Mavrakos Chocolates releases a Limited Edition Rosebud Collection for the 100 Year Anniversary of Mavrakos.

The Saint Louis based company, founded in 1913 by Greek immigrant John A. Mavrakos has been part of St. Louis’ rich history since the 1904 World’s Fair – where Mr. Mavrakos started selling ice cream and candies. He and his wife, Madeleine, incorporated the Mavrakos Candy Company in 1913 – 100 Years ago.

Mavrakos has famously created some of St. Louisians favorite candies over the years including its signature Heavenly Hash, Coconut Crescents, Pecan Burrs (turtles), Bon Bon Creams and Caramels. The Rosebud Collection includes the ‘best of the best’ pieces – famously redesigned to look like the original Mavrakos wooden boxes from the late 1930s. Each wooden box was hand carved with roses on the top – to signify the Rosebud Collection. The Limited Edition Rosebud is 2/3 the size of the original wooden box and fabricated out of cardboard. The box is freshly packed with all of the Mavrkaos classics – Pecan Burrs, Apricot Wedges, Bon Bon Creams, Caramels and the signature Coconut Crescent. The rosebud collections are available at all 9 Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company stores. There is only one batch being produced of the Limited Edition Rosebud collection – so it will only be available for a short time.

It all started with one retail store, a candy stove and a young candy maker.

In 1981, Dan Abel Sr. had just returned to his hometown of St. Louis after apprenticing with European candy makers across the country.  Dan had just married and was eager to start a business. The concept was simple – source the finest ingredients in the world and blend them together in small batches.

Over 30 years later, Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Company stands behind the roots of its founder. Today, we are an award-winning second generation family business. We have grown from our original location on Historic Route 66 to 10 retail stores and a national gourmet wholesale division that caters to grocery stores, gift shops, specialty shops and candy stores across the country. Our new state of the art 30,000 sq. ft. candy kitchen is the heart of the company – with a staff of candy makers with over 100 years of combined confectionery experience.
